PROFESSOR ABIODUN SALAWU BECOMES FELLOW OF THE NIGERIAN ACADEMY OF LETTERS

The College of Fellows of the prestigious Nigerian Academy of Letters has awarded Prof. Abiodun Salawu as a Fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Letters (NAL). NAL is Nigeria’s national academy and apex body of arts and literature. It is an autonomous, scholarly, and non-political state institution for advancing scholarship and public interest in the humanities at the highest level in Nigeria. The academy’s Fellows are a group of distinguished humanities scholars nominated and elected in recognition of their outstanding contributions to humanistic scholarship.

In a statement issued by the NAL secretary, Professor Olakunbi Olasope, a recommendation was made at a meeting held on July 4, 2024, where Prof. Abiodun Salawu was nominated and elected along with other members as Fellows of the Nigerian Academy of Letters, in the category of overseas nominees. This is in recognition of their exceptional contributions to humanistic scholarship.

He is a Professor of Journalism, Communication and Media Studies and Director of the Indigenous Language Media in Africa (ILMA) research entity at the North-West University, South Africa. He has taught and researched journalism, media, and communication in Nigeria and South Africa for nearly three decades. Prof. Salawu is also rated by the NRF as an established researcher at the level of C1 (with international recognition).

The new Fellows’ investiture will take place on August 8, 2024, at this year’s Nigerian Academy of Letters convocation ceremony.
